South Place Hotel in the City of London can claim a number of firsts: it is the first, purpose-built hotel to open in the Square Mile in 100 years; it is the only independent, luxury hotel in the City; and it is the first hotel from restaurateurs D&D London, owners of some of the best restaurants in London, including Skylon in the Southbank Centre, Le Pont de la Tour at Tower Bridge, Bluebird Cafe on the King’s Road and, of course, within the hotel are Angler seafood restaurant and rooftop terrace and 3 South Place Bar & Grill.

Designed by Allies and Morrison, with interiors by Conran + Partners, the 80-bedroom hotel is one of the most stylish hotels in East London. It derives its inspiration from many of the things that make the capital buzz: cultural diversity, local neighbourhoods, understated wit and an easy sense of self. Like many of the best art hotels, South Place has commissioned a number of pieces of art especially for the hotel, its restaurant and bars, including “pop-art” prints by John Vincent Aranda, “two-minute portraits” by Damien Florebert-Cuypers, which have been featured in the New York Times, artwork from Hoxton Art Gallery and “Can-o-Vision” by AMD Interior Architecture.

Located between Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations, South Place enjoys excellent transport connections throughout London, including connections to the Eurostar terminal and to Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and London Stansted airports. Many of London’s most popular tourist attractions are within walking distance of the hotel, including the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tate Modern, the Whitechapel Gallery and the Barbican Centre.

Shopaholics, too, are spoilt for choice: all of the best high street retailers can be found at Westfield Stratford City, just 10 minutes from South Place Hotel by Tube; whilst Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street are all also easily reached. For boutique shops, art galleries and famous London markets look no further than Spitalfields, Shoreditch, Old Street and Hoxton, all of which neighbour South Place Hotel and offer some of the best shopping and nights out in London.

More meet than sleep, South Place is a haven for discerning business travellers and local Londoners alike, with a choice of two restaurants and three bars. Angler restaurant serves some of the finest seafood in London, whilst Angler rooftop terrace is one of the most popular spots for al fresco eating and drinking in London. On the ground floor of the hotel, 3 South Place Bar & Grill is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with DJs in the Bar most evenings and a late-night license.

South Place Hotel has partnered with Aromatherapy Associates, who work with the world’s finest hotels and destination spas to provide signature treatments and rituals to restore health and vitality. The treatment room, gym and wellness centre on the first floor of the hotel also offer Technogym equipment as well as steam rooms and sauna.

The hotel’s five private dining rooms are perfect for meetings and events in London, and can cater for anything from a small boardroom meeting to a conference for 100 or a cocktail reception and party for up to 400. The hotel is also a superb London wedding venue, whether you are looking to hire Angler restaurant and rooftop terrace for up to 160 guests or simply require an elegant room for a civil ceremony.

South Place is a London business hotel and much more: Bruce Robertson, General Manager, says, “Our vision is to treat every guest who walks through the door as an individual, appealing to the refined tastes of discerning travellers as well as our neighbours in the City and surrounding East End.” A member of Design Hotels, South Place Hotel aims to provide a memorable, luxurious stay for guests from Britain and abroad, and to become a new haunt for the local neighbourhood.
